Many brides we encounter are under the impression that in order to preserve their wedding gown, they must have their gown sealed in a box with some kind of adhesive tape or vacuum seal it inside a plastic bag and then inside a taped together box.
Vacuum packing and sealing your gown is not recommended method of preservation for your gown. Textile fibers need to be in an environment where there is air circulation and sealing a box will do exactly the opposite which is trapping the moisture and humidity. Besides that the brides is forbidden of the opportunity to examine her gown for signs of aging or simply sharing her gown with her family.
THE BETTER SOLUTION:
The better solution is to heirloom the gown using the same methods as many archives and museums, which is in an archival box, not sealed, using acid-free tissue covered by muslin wrap to limit excessive light and dust damage.
